Jeju E-Bike Trip Around the Island– Day 1

[Jeju E-Bike Journey with My Son – Day 1]

Arrival at Jeju Airport(08:00) → the Bike Shop

We landed early in the morning and headed to the bike rental shop by taxi.
Originally, the rental shop offered to pick us up, but they were short-handed and asked us to take a taxi instead — even offering to cover the fare.

When I told the taxi driver our destination, he wasn’t too friendly. He grumbled and told me to check T-map myself.
I tried to lighten the mood:
"Come on, sir, let’s start the day with a smile, shall we?"
Thankfully, his expression softened.

We ended up taking a wrong turn, but finally reached the bike shop.
There were already quite a few tourists renting bikes that morning.
Even though we took an early flight, the newer bikes were already gone — only the older ones were left. Oh well, first come, first served!

At 9:00 AM, we finally set off.

From the Bike Shop → Yongduam → Darak Rest Stop

The owner told us we could buy a stamp book at the Jeju Tourist Information Center near Yongduam parking lot — turned out, that wasn’t true.
But honestly, we didn’t care much about collecting stamps. The real meaning for us was just riding around the island together.

It was supposed to rain that day, but luckily the skies stayed dry — just overcast.

On the Way to Darak Rest Stop

My son Yoonjae was doing great, keeping up without a word of complaint.
I did my best not to nag, simply enjoying the peaceful coastal road alongside him.

From Darak to Haegoreum Village Park

We reached Haegoreum Village Park — the spot where we’d spend the next three days with our trusty e-bikes.
I tried several times to get a photo of Yoonjae with the bike, but he kept saying “No!”
A stubborn little guy — but that’s okay. I let it go.

Shinchang Windmill Village & Yongsu-ri

We stopped for lunch at a place called Shinchang Duruchigi, I think.
Both of us love meat, and the food was reasonably priced. Not many tables, but it had that cozy local vibe.

Afterwards, we visited Yongsu Port and saw Chagwido, a small island.
I've been to Jeju many times, but this spot — so quiet, with that view of the sea and the island — really stayed with me.
It had a special kind of charm.

A Stop at Songaksan

On our way to Songaksan, we passed through Shindo 2-ri and discovered Mubyungjangsu Doguri and Mosalmul — a place with clear skies, blue ocean, and peaceful vibes. We rested there for a while.

By the time we got close to Songaksan, the battery on my e-bike had run out.
It was tough going uphill, and even though I worried about my son, he quietly kept up without complaint. Made me feel proud.

I’d been to Songaksan before, so we didn’t walk the full trail this time.
But if you’ve never been — I highly recommend it.
It’s a short walk (less than an hour), but filled with coastal views and wide open skies. That’s when I realized how close Gapado and Marado really are. It all felt like one harmonious scene.

To the Guesthouse in Sagye

We stayed at a guesthouse in Sagye-ri, right in front of Sanbangsan.
We booked a twin room — clean and simple — but the best part was the garden with soft grass.

Our twin room at Sagye Guesthouse — and what’s with that messy hand? Fearless soon-to-be middle schooler

Dinner was at a nearby spot called Gogi-rang-Bap-i-rang (Meat & Rice).
I often rely on ratings from Daum Maps, and this place did not disappoint — tasty and great value for money.
A glass of Cass beer with Mt. Hallasan in view was the perfect way to end the day.

The Night Sky in Front of Sagye Port

As the night fell, we sat on a bench in the garden, surrounded by cats, wrapping up the day.

There was no set destination. Our goal was simply to circle Jeju — letting the road decide where we go.

Day one — off to a good start.

Rain was in the forecast for the next few days, and my wife did warn me to apply sunscreen properly.
Now, with our masks off, both my son and I looked... a little too sun-kissed. Oops.

Day 1 Route Summary:

  • Jeju Airport → Bike Rental Shop
  • Yongduam → Darak Rest Stop → Haegoreum Village Park
  • Shinchang Windmill Village → Yongsu-ri Port
  • Songaksan → Sagye Guesthouse
